- Written as a representation of dialogue and performance. Can be written in poetic or prosaic form.
- It is a composition in verse or prose presented through dialogue and performance (oftentimes, through stage action). It may be performed in theater (play), radio, or television.
Types
- Tragedy - treats in a serious and dignified style the sorrowful or terrible events encountered or caused by a heroic individual.
Greeks started plays
- Comedy - a work that is amusing and satirical in its tone, mostly having a cheerful ending. It is often deals with the serious topics addressed in a humorous way.
- Tragicomedy - literary genre that blends aspects of both tragic and comic forms
- Farce - a type of comedy that makes use of highly exaggerated, absurd, and funny situations aimed at enteratining the ausience.
- Melodrama - a work with exaggerated, sensational events and characters which encourgaes emotional responses in the audience.
- Opera - a work in which the characters sing each line rather than speaking. The entire production is set to a musical score.
